How to Prepare Wine for a Party at Home

By Kiout - December 12, 2018

Throwing a party involves a lot of factors, and one of them is choosing which wine to buy and serve. The wrong bottle will disappoint your guest, but the right one will definitely gladden their hearts and commend you for being an excellent host or hostess. Here are some of the most important things you need to keep in mind when preparing wine for a party:

Number of Guests

The number of people you expect to attend your party should be your top consideration because it will determine how many bottles of wine you need to prepare. Aside from the number of guests, you should also consider how many of them will drink mostly wine. As a rule, you should prepare one bottle for five to six persons. And if you feel your guests are going to drink lots of wine, make sure to prepare at least three glasses per person and see to it you have extra bottles to spare just in case.

Type of Wine to Serve

The type of wine you buy will depend on the food you're going to prepare. But since you can't really say what people would prefer, a good rule would be to stick to Chardonnay or Pinot Gris if you're going for white wine. For red wine, Shiraz and Pinot Noir would be excellent choices. Regardless of what you're buying, though, make sure you sample it, especially if you're buying several bottles.

Wine Glass to Use

There's nothing wrong with using the same type of wine glass for both red wine and white wine. However, the rule is to use a glass with a wider opening for red wine as it needs aeration and space for swirling. For white wine, use a smaller glass to keep it cool. Also, don't believe the lie that your wine will taste better when served in an expensive glass wine. As long as you have some decent wine glasses in your collection, those should do.

Where to Buy Wine

The best thing you can do is to shop around. There are probably good wine stores in your locality that sell fine wine at very excellent prices. Once you find a good deal, make sure you buy in bulk. If you're buying online, buying in bulk will give you up to 15% discount. And if you know how and where to look, you can definitely end up with a good bottle of wine for a good price of $10-$25.
